Next Stop Chamonix!

Following a week at home, which was very nice, it was time to head out to Chamonix for a weeks ski touring with Mountain Tracks and my mate Paul.

The main goal was to summit Mont Blanc, however, it soon became clear that this was not going to happen due to the weather! A huge dump of fresh snow had fell the week before I arrived and it continued to snow when I got to Chamonix.  Add to this high winds and unstable temperatures and the avalanche risk was way too high!

However, fresh snow means another chance to ski some pow! The weather cleared on Sunday and we had a great day on the Grand Montets......

Fresh tracks!!!

On Monday we headed up the Argentiere glacier and planned to stay the night at the Argentiere hut at approx 2800mtrs. We skinned up the glacier, past the Hut, and headed up the Glacier des Amethystes to the Col du Tour Noir.
Following this we skied back down and headed for the hut for the evening.

What a great day!!!

The following morning we awoke to heavy snow and high winds! The ski back down was interesting to say the least.........

Luckily for us we had Klemen, our mountain guide, to lead the way down, navigating around the huge crevasses in the near zero visibility, high winds and deep snow!!!
